39. Does the infinite God desire to have a close and loving relationship with finite man such that men are called the “Children of God”?

the Bible Yes
No the Quran

the Bible's Perspective

Hosea 1:10Yet the number of the children of Israel will be as the sand of the sea, which can’t be measured or counted; and it will come to pass that, in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’
Galatians 4:6And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!”
1 John 3:1-2Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. He came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him.”

the Quran's Perspective

Al-Ma'ida (the Table spread) 5:18But the Jews and the Christians say, "We are the children of Allah and His beloved." Say, "Then why does He punish you for your sins?" Rather, you are human beings from among those He has created. He forgives whom He wills, and He punishes whom He wills. And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and to Him is the [final] destination.

Notes

While the Qur’an denies that men can become the Sons of God, God is also said to be very near to man: Cf. Quran 8:24; Quran 11:90-92; & Quran 50:16.
