117. Is circumcision required of a male believer today?

the Bible No
Yes the Quran

the Bible's Perspective

Acts 15:5-11But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.” The apostles and the elders were gathered together to see about this matter. When there had been much discussion, Peter rose up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that a good while ago God made a choice amongst you that by my mouth the nations should hear the word of the Good News and believe. God, who knows the heart, testified about them, giving them the Holy Spirit, just like he did to us. He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith. Now therefore why do you tempt God, that you should put a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they are.”
1 Corinthians 7:18Was anyone called having been circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Has anyone been called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised.
1 Corinthians 7:20Let each man stay in that calling in which he was called.
Galatians 5:2Behold, I, Paul, tell you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will profit you nothing.
Galatians 5:6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision amounts to anything, but faith working through love.

the Quran's Perspective

An -Nahl (The Bee) 16:123And afterward We inspired thee (Muhammad, saying): Follow the religion of Abraham, as one by nature upright. He was not of the idolaters.

Notes

In Islam, circumcision is part of the religion of Abraham, and thus binding on Muslims. This can also be seen in the Hadith: Bukhari 2.23.343, Fatih al-Bari 6.388; and Muslim 2370.
