Seeking Forgiveness

These are those who say, ‘Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive our sins and protect us from the torment of the Fire.’

3:16Those who say: Our Lord! Lo! we believe. So forgive us our sins and guard us from the punishment of Fire;

Remember when you were few and oppressed in the land, fearing that people might seize you. Then He sheltered you, strengthened you, and provided for you, so that you might be grateful.

8:26And remember, when ye were few and reckoned feeble in the land, and were in fear lest men should extirpate you, how He gave you refuge, and strengthened you with His help, and made provision of good things for you, that haply ye might be thankful.

“Be grateful to Allah.” Whoever is grateful benefits himself.

2:172O ye who believe! Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you, and render thanks to Allah if it is (indeed) He Whom ye worship.

31:12And verily We gave Luqman wisdom, saying: Give thanks unto Allah; and whosoever giveth thanks, he giveth thanks for (the good of) his soul. And whosoever refuseth - Lo! Allah is Absolute, Owner of Praise.

Why would Allah punish you if you are grateful and faithful?

4:147What concern hath Allah for your punishment if ye are thankful (for His mercies) and believe (in Him)? Allah was ever Responsive, Aware.

They are the patient, the truthful, the devout, the generous, and those who seek forgiveness before dawn.

3:17The steadfast, and the truthful, and the obedient, those who spend (and hoard not), those who pray for pardon in the watches of the night.
