Oaths

Do not make Allah’s name an excuse to avoid doing good, being mindful, or reconciling between people.

2:224And make not Allah, by your oaths, a hindrance to your being righteous and observing your duty unto Him and making peace among mankind. Allah is Hearer, Knower.

Allah does not hold you accountable for unintentional oaths, but He does for what your hearts truly intend. And Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Forbearing.

2:225Allah will not take you to task for that which is unintentional in your oaths. But He will take you to task for that which your hearts have garnered. Allah is Forgiving, Clement.

They swear by Allah with their strongest oaths: “If you command us, we will surely go forth.” Say: “Do not swear, your obedience is already known.

24:53They swear by Allah solemnly that, if thou order them, they will go forth. Say: Swear not; known obedience (is better). Lo! Allah is Informed of what ye do.

Allah does not hold you accountable for thoughtless oaths, but He does for those made with intent. The expiation is feeding ten needy people, clothing them, or freeing a slave. If unable, then fasting for three days. Keep your oaths.

5:89Allah will not take you to task for that which is unintentional in your oaths, but He will take you to task for the oaths which ye swear in earnest. The expiation thereof is the feeding of ten of the needy with the average of that wherewith ye feed your own folk, or the clothing of them, or the liberation of a slave, and for him who findeth not (the wherewithal to do so) then a three days' fast. This is the expiation of your oaths when ye have sworn; and keep your oaths. Thus Allah expoundeth unto you His revelations in order that ye may give thanks.

Fulfill your pledges when you make them, and do not break oaths after confirming them, for you have made Allah your witness. Surely, Allah knows what you do.

16:91Fulfil the covenant of Allah when ye have covenanted, and break not your oaths after the asseveration of them, and after ye have made Allah surety over you. Lo! Allah knoweth what ye do.

Do not use your oaths to deceive one another, lest your feet slip after being firm, and you taste punishment for turning others away from Allah’s path.

16:94Make not your oaths a deceit between you, lest a foot should slip after being firmly planted and ye should taste evil forasmuch as ye debarred (men) from the way of Allah, and yours should be an awful doom.

Then the believers will say, “Are these the ones who swore by Allah that they stood with us?” Their deeds have been rendered void, and they are now among the lost.

5:53Then will the believers say (unto the people of the Scripture): are these they who swore by Allah their most binding oaths that they were surely with you? Their works have failed, and they have become the losers.
