Entering Houses full verses back to top

Righteousness is not in entering houses from the back, but true righteousness is in being mindful of Allah. So, enter houses through their doors

O believers, do not enter homes other than your own without first seeking permission and greeting the occupants. That is better for you; perhaps you will remember.

If you find no one there, do not enter until permission is granted. And if told to go back, then go back; it is purer for you.

There is no blame upon you for entering uninhabited houses where you have some benefit.

O you who believe, let your servants and those among you who have not yet reached puberty ask permission before entering at three times: before dawn prayer, when you remove your garments at midday, and after the night prayer. These are private times for you. Outside of these, there is no blame for you, and they move about one another freely.

And when your children reach maturity, let them ask permission as those before them did.

House Etiquette full verses back to top

There is no blame on the blind, or the lame, or the sick, or on yourselves, for eating in your own homes, or the homes of your fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, or in homes you hold the keys to, or in the homes of your friends. There is no harm in eating together or separately. But when you enter a home, greet one another with a greeting of peace

The true believers are those who stay with the Messenger in collective matters and do not leave without asking permission. Those who ask your permission they are the ones who truly believe in Allah and His Messenger. So, when they ask your leave for some personal matter, grant it to whomever you will, and ask Allah to forgive them.

Parents full verses back to top

We have enjoined upon man kindness to his parents. His mother bore him with hardship and delivered him with hardship. His bearing and weaning take thirty months. When he reaches maturity and reaches forty years, he says: “My Lord, inspire me to be grateful for Your favour upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteousness that pleases You. And make my offspring upright. Truly, I turn to You in repentance, and I am of those who submit.”

You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they are their fathers, sons, brothers, or relatives. Allah has placed faith in their hearts and strengthened them with His spirit. He will admit them into gardens beneath which rivers flow, where they will dwell forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. They are the party of Allah; indeed, the party of Allah will triumph.

O believers! Stand firm in justice, bearing witness for Allah, even against yourselves, parents, or kin.

Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him and show kindness to your parents. If one or both of them reach old age with you, do not say to them a word of irritation, nor rebuke them, but speak to them with honour.

And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy, and say, “My Lord, have mercy on them, as they raised me when I was small.”

Be kind to parents, relatives, orphans, the needy, neighbours, whether near or distant, companions, travellers, and those under your care.

Children full verses back to top

Do not kill your children out of fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Killing them is a grave sin.

Do not approach the wealth of an orphan except in the best manner until he reaches maturity. Fulfil your promises, for you will be questioned about them.

Relative, Poor, Traveller full verses back to top

They ask you what they should spend. Say, ‘Whatever you give should be for parents, relatives, orphans, the needy, and travellers.

True righteousness is in one who gives wealth, despite loving it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, travellers, and those who ask for help, and for freeing slaves.

They are those who repent, worship, praise, travel for His sake, bow, prostrate, enjoin good, forbid evil, and uphold Allah’s limits. Give good news to the believers.

Give your relatives their due, as well as the needy and the traveller, but do not squander your wealth wastefully.

So, give your relatives their due, and the needy, and the traveller. That is best for those who seek Allah’s pleasure; these are the successful.

Whatever gains Allah turned over to His Messenger from the people of the towns belongs to Allah, the Messenger, close relatives, orphans, the needy, and the traveller, so that wealth does not circulate only among the rich among you.

If you must turn away from those in need due to a lack of resources, then speak to them kindly.

Do not keep your hand clenched, nor open it completely, lest you end up blameworthy and destitute.

Intercede full verses back to top

Whoever intercedes for a good cause will have a share in it, and whoever intercedes for an evil cause will bear its burden. Allah oversees all things.

Those who do not invoke other gods besides Allah, nor take a life unjustly, nor commit adultery.

Do not approach adultery; it is an outrage and an evil path.

As for those women among you who commit a grave indecency, call upon four witnesses from among yourselves to testify against them. If they bear witness, then confine those women to their homes until death claims them or Allah opens for them a path forward.

As for those who commit adultery, punish them unless they repent and reform. If they do, leave them be.

Repentance is accepted by Allah from those who sin out of ignorance and then quickly turn back. Allah forgives them.

Do not walk arrogantly upon the earth. You cannot pierce the earth, nor reach the mountains in height.

All these actions are detestable to your Lord.

Sacrifice full verses back to top

For every nation We appointed rites, so they may mention Allah’s name over the livestock He provided.

Whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, who endure hardship patiently, establish prayer, and give from what We provided.

And the sacrificial animals, We made them among Allah’s symbols for you. In them is good. So, mention Allah’s name over them as they are lined up, then when they fall on their sides, eat from them and feed the content and the needy. Thus, We made them subject to you, so you may be grateful.

Complete the pilgrimage and minor pilgrimage for Allah. But if you are prevented, then offer a sacrifice as you can.

Neither their flesh nor their blood reaches Allah, but your piety does. Thus, He subjected them to you so you may glorify Allah for what He has guided you to.

O believers! Do not violate sacred rites, the sacred months, the offerings, or those journeying to the Sacred House seeking their Lord’s favour.

O believers! Intoxicants, gambling, idolatrous offerings, and divining arrows are vile works of Satan, so avoid them, that you may succeed.

So, pray to your Lord and sacrifice.

Say, “My prayer, my worship, my life, and my death are for Allah, the Lord of all worlds.”

Allah defends those who believe.

Mosques full verses back to top

Who is more unjust than one who prevents Allah’s name from being mentioned in His places of worship and seeks to ruin them? Such people should not enter them except in fear.

It is not for the polytheists to maintain Allah’s places of worship while openly disbelieving. Their deeds are worthless.

The only ones who maintain Allah’s places of worship are those who believe in Him and the Last Day, establish prayer, give charity, and fear none but Allah. It is they who are expected to be rightly guided.

Never stand in it! A mosque founded on righteousness from the first day is more worthy of your prayers. Within it are men who love to be purified, and Allah loves those who purify themselves.

But do not be intimate with your spouses while secluded in the mosques.

There are those who built a mosque to spread harm, disbelief, and division among the believers

Wherever you go, turn toward the Sacred Mosque

We have seen you, O Prophet, turning your face toward the heavens in anticipation. Now, We will direct you toward a prayer direction that pleases you. So turn your face toward the Sacred Mosque, and wherever you are, turn your faces toward it.

Do you consider providing water to pilgrims and maintaining the Sacred Mosque equal to believing in Allah and striving in His cause? They are not equal in Allah’s sight.

O believers! Do not violate sacred rites, the sacred months, the offerings, or those journeying to the Sacred House seeking their Lord’s favour. Once you leave the pilgrimage state, you may hunt. But do not let hatred toward those who barred you from the Sacred Mosque lead you to injustice.

Kaba full verses back to top

Allah has made the Kaaba, the Sacred House, a sanctuary for people, along with the sacred months, offerings, and garlanded animals. This is so you may know that Allah knows all in the heavens and the earth.

Various full verses back to top

Allah commands justice, kindness, and generosity to relatives, and He forbids immorality, wrongdoing, and oppression. He instructs you so that you may take heed.

Legal Retribution full verses back to top

O believers, legal retribution is prescribed for you in cases of murder, the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. But if the victim’s family pardons the killer, then a fair settlement must be made. This is an alleviation and mercy from your Lord. Yet whoever transgresses after that will face a painful punishment.

And in retribution, there is life for you, O people of understanding, so that you may become mindful.

The penalty for an evil act is its equivalent, but whoever forgives and seeks reconciliation will find their reward with Allah.

Those who defend themselves when wronged, there is no blame upon them.

Yet whoever is patient and forgives, this is true strength.

Then We took vengeance on those who sinned. It is Our duty to help the believers.

Bequests full verses back to top

It is prescribed that when death approaches any of you, if they leave behind wealth, they should make a fair will for parents and close relatives. This is a duty upon the righteous.

But whoever alters the will after hearing it, then the sin is upon those who alter it.

Yet if someone fears that the testator has acted unjustly or wrongly and reconciles between the heirs, there is no sin upon them.

Testimony full verses back to top

O believers! When death approaches one of you, let two just witnesses be present at the time of bequest. If traveling, and death comes, then take testimony from others. If you doubt them, detain them after prayer and let them swear by Allah, “We will not trade our testimony for any price, nor conceal the truth, or else we would be sinful.”

If it is discovered that they lied, let two others take their place and swear by Allah, “Our testimony is truer, and we have not transgressed, or else we would be sinful.”

This ensures testimony is given properly, or else they fear their oaths may be challenged.

All are obedient to Him.
