Abraham Destroys the Idols

And he said to himself, “By Allah, I will surely devise a plan against your idols once you turn away.”

21:57And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs.

And said, “I feel unwell.”

37:89Then said: Lo! I feel sick!

So, they turned away from him and left.

37:90And they turned their backs and went away from him.

Then he turned to their gods and said, “Don’t you eat?

37:91Then turned he to their gods and said: Will ye not eat?

Why don’t you speak?”

37:92What aileth you that ye speak not?

Then he struck them with his right hand.

37:93Then he attacked them, striking with his right hand.

So he shattered them all, except the largest one, so they might turn to it for answers.

21:58Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it.

They exclaimed, “Who has done this to our gods? He must be a wrongdoer!”

21:59They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer.

Some said, “We heard a young man speaking against them, his name is Abraham.”

21:60They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham.

They said, “Bring him before the people so they may witness.”

21:61They said: Then bring him (hither) before the people's eyes that they may testify.

They asked, “Was it you who did this to our gods, O Abraham?”

21:62They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham?

37:94And (his people) came toward him, hastening.

He said, “Do you worship what you carve

37:95He said: Worship ye that which ye yourselves do carve

When Allah created you and what you make?”

37:96When Allah hath created you and what ye make?

He said, “Then why do you worship what cannot benefit or harm you?”

21:66He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you?

He replied, “Rather, it was the biggest one among them. Ask them if they can speak.”

21:63He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak.

Then they turned inward and said, “Indeed, we are the ones in error.”

21:64Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers.

But soon they relapsed and said, “You know well that these idols do not speak.”

21:65And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not.
