Abraham's Call to Monotheism
When Abraham said to his father and his people, “I am innocent of what you worship.”
43:26And when Abraham said unto his father and his folk: Lo! I am innocent of what ye worship
“Except for He who created me, for He will guide me.”
43:27Save Him Who did create me, for He will surely guide me.
And he made it a lasting word among his descendants, so they may return.
43:28And he made it a word enduring among his seed, that haply they might return.
Abraham sought forgiveness for his father only because of a promise he had made. But when he realized his father was an enemy of Allah, he disassociated from him. Abraham was tender-hearted and forbearing.
9:114The prayer of Abraham for the forgiveness of his father was only because of a promise he had promised him, but when it had become clear unto him that he (his father) was an enemy to Allah he (Abraham) disowned him. Lo! Abraham was soft of heart, long-suffering.
He said, “Peace be upon you. I will seek forgiveness for you from my Lord. He is ever gracious to me.”
19:47He said: Peace be unto thee! I shall ask forgiveness of my Lord for thee. Lo! He was ever gracious unto me.
29:16And Abraham! (Remember) when he said unto his folk: Serve Allah, and keep your duty unto Him; that is better for you if ye did but know.
You worship idols besides Allah and fabricate falsehoods. Those you worship cannot provide for you, seek your provision from Allah, worship Him, and be grateful. To Him you will return.”
29:17Ye serve instead of Allah only idols, and ye only invent a lie. Lo! those whom ye serve instead of Allah own no provision for you. So seek your provision from Allah, and serve Him, and give thanks unto Him, (for) unto Him ye will be brought back.
“And I will distance myself from you and from what you invoke besides Allah, and I will call upon my Lord. Perhaps I will not be unblessed in my supplication.”
19:48I shall withdraw from you and that unto which ye pray beside Allah, and I shall pray unto my Lord. It may be that, in prayer unto my Lord, I shall not be unblest.
“Shame on you and what you worship besides Allah! Will you not reason?”
21:67Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense?
His people argued with him. He said, “Do you dispute with me about Allah when He has guided me? I do not fear those you associate with Him, unless my Lord wills otherwise. My Lord encompasses all things in knowledge. Will you not reflect?”
6:80His people argued with him. He said: Dispute ye with me concerning Allah when He hath guided me? I fear not at all that which ye set up beside Him unless my Lord willeth aught. My Lord includeth all things in His knowledge. Will ye not then remember?
“How could I fear what you associate with Him, when you do not fear setting up partners with Allah, for which He has sent no authority? Which side is more deserving of security, if you only knew?”
6:81How should I fear that which ye set up beside Him, when ye fear not to set up beside Allah that for which He hath revealed unto you no warrant? Which of the two factions hath more right to safety? (Answer me that) if ye have knowledge.
Those who believe and do not mix their faith with wrongdoing they are the ones who will have security, and they are rightly guided.
6:82Those who believe and obscure not their belief by wrongdoing, theirs is safety; and they are rightly guided.
This was Our argument, which We gave to Abraham against his people. We elevate in rank whomever We will.
6:83That is Our argument. We gave it unto Abraham against his folk. We raise unto degrees of wisdom whom We will. Lo! thy Lord is Wise, Aware.
