Adam and his Wife - The Fall
We said, “O Adam, this is an enemy to you and your wife, do not let him drive you from Paradise, or you will suffer.”
20:117Therefor we said: O Adam! This is an enemy unto thee and unto thy wife, so let him not drive you both out of the Garden so that thou come to toil.
We said, 'O Adam, dwell in Paradise, you and your spouse, and enjoy its bounty freely, but do not approach this tree, lest you become wrongdoers.'
2:35And We said: O Adam! Dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden, and eat ye freely (of the fruits) thereof where ye will; but come not nigh this tree lest ye become wrong-doers.
7:19And (unto man): O Adam! Dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden and eat from whence ye will, but come not nigh this tree lest ye become wrong-doers.
“Here, you will neither go hungry nor be unclothed.”
20:118It is (vouchsafed) unto thee that thou hungerest not therein nor art naked,
“Nor will you thirst or suffer from the sun’s heat.”
20:119And that thou thirstest not therein nor art exposed to the sun's heat.
But Satan whispered to him, saying, “Shall I show you the tree of eternity and a kingdom that never fades?”
20:120But the devil whispered to him, saying: O Adam! Shall I show thee the tree of immortality and power that wasteth not away?
Then Satan whispered to them, revealing what had been hidden of their nakedness. He said, “Your Lord only forbade this tree to keep you from becoming angels or attaining immortality.”
7:20Then Satan whispered to them that he might manifest unto them that which was hidden from them of their shame, and he said: Your Lord forbade you from this tree only lest ye should become angels or become of the immortals.
And he swore to them, “I am truly your sincere advisor.”
7:21And he swore unto them (saying): Lo! I am a sincere adviser unto you.
Then Satan caused them to slip and led them out of their blissful state. We said, 'Descend as enemies to one another, and on earth you will have a dwelling and provision for a time.'
2:36But Satan caused them to deflect therefrom and expelled them from the (happy) state in which they were; and We said: Fall down, one of you a foe unto the other! There shall be for you on earth a habitation and provision for a time.
So, they both ate from it, and their nakedness became apparent to them, and they began covering themselves with leaves from Paradise. Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.
20:121Then they twain ate thereof, so that their shame became apparent unto them, and they began to hide by heaping on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And Adam disobeyed his Lord, so went astray.
He said, “Descend, all of you, as enemies to one another. But when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows it will neither go astray nor suffer.”
20:123He said: Go down hence, both of you, one of you a foe unto the other. But when there come unto you from Me a guidance, then whoso followeth My guidance, he will not go astray nor come to grief.
So, he deceived them. When they tasted the tree, their nakedness became exposed, and they began covering themselves with leaves from the Garden. Their Lord called to them, “Did I not forbid you from this tree and tell you that Satan is your sworn enemy?”
7:22Thus did he lead them on with guile. And when they tasted of the tree their shame was manifest to them and they began to hide (by heaping) on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called them, (saying): Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you: Lo! Satan is an open enemy to you?
36:60Did I not charge you, O ye sons of Adam, that ye worship not the devil - Lo! he is your open foe! -
They said, “Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and show mercy, we will surely be among the lost.”
7:23They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost!
He said, “Descend, as enemies to one another. On earth, you will have a dwelling and provision for a time.”
7:24He said: Go down (from hence), one of you a foe unto the other. There will be for you on earth a habitation and provision for a while.
He said, “There you will live, there you will die, and from it, you will be brought forth.”
7:25He said: There shall ye live, and there shall ye die, and thence shall ye be brought forth.
Then Adam received words of guidance from his Lord, and Allah accepted his repentance.
2:37Then Adam received from his Lord words (of revelation), and He relented toward him. Lo! He is the relenting, the Merciful.
20:122Then his Lord chose him, and relented toward him, and guided him.
We said, 'Descend from here, all of you. But when guidance comes to you from Me, those who follow it will have no fear, nor will they grieve.
2:38We said: Go down, all of you, from hence; but verily there cometh unto you from Me a guidance; and whoso followeth My guidance, there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve.
20:123He said: Go down hence, both of you, one of you a foe unto the other. But when there come unto you from Me a guidance, then whoso followeth My guidance, he will not go astray nor come to grief.
O children of Adam! We have provided you with garments to cover your nakedness and as adornment. But the garment of righteousness is best. This is one of Allah’s signs, so that you may reflect.
7:26O Children of Adam! We have revealed unto you raiment to conceal your shame, and splendid vesture, but the raiment of restraint from evil, that is best. This is of the revelations of Allah, that they may remember.
Indeed, Allah chose Adam, Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of Imran above all people
3:33Lo! Allah preferred Adam and Noah and the Family of Abraham and the Family of 'Imran above (all His) creatures.
17:70Verily we have honoured the Children of Adam. We carry them on the land and the sea, and have made provision of good things for them, and have preferred them above many of those whom We created with a marked preferment.
O children of Adam! Do not let Satan deceive you as he did your parents, driving them out of the Garden, stripping them of their garments to expose their nakedness.
7:27O Children of Adam! Let not Satan seduce you as he caused your (first) parents to go forth from the Garden and tore off from them their robe (of innocence) that he might manifest their shame to them. Lo! he seeth you, he and his tribe, from whence ye see him not. Lo! We have made the devils protecting friends for those who believe not.
