David's Wisdom
We strengthened his kingdom and granted him wisdom and decisive speech.
38:20We made his kingdom strong and gave him wisdom and decisive speech.
Has the story of the disputants reached you? When they climbed into his sanctuary?
38:21And hath the story of the litigants come unto thee? How they climbed the wall into the royal chamber;
They entered upon David, startling him. They said, “Fear not. We are two disputants, one has wronged the other. Judge fairly, do not be unjust, and guide us to the right path.”
38:22How they burst in upon David, and he was afraid of them. They said: Be not afraid! (We are) two litigants, one of whom hath wronged the other, therefor judge aright between us; be not unjust; and show us the fair way.
“This brother of mine has ninety-nine ewes, while I have only one. He insists I surrender it to him, overpowering me with words.”
38:23Lo! this my brother hath ninety and nine ewes while I had one ewe; and he said: Entrust it to me, and he conquered me in speech.
David said, “He has wronged you by demanding your ewe in addition to his own. Many partners oppress one another, except those who believe and do good, but they are few.” David realized We were testing him, so he sought forgiveness, fell in prostration, and repented.
38:24(David) said: He hath wronged thee in demanding thine ewe in addition to his ewes, and lo! many partners oppress one another, save such as believe and do good works, and they are few. And David guessed that We had tried him, and he sought forgiveness of his Lord, and he bowed himself and fell down prostrate and repented.
So, We forgave him, and he was granted nearness to Us and a noble return.
38:25So We forgave him that; and lo! he had access to Our presence and a happy journey's end.
And We granted knowledge to David and Solomon, and they said, “Praise be to Allah, who has favoured us over many of His believing servants.”
27:15And We verily gave knowledge unto David and Solomon, and they said: Praise be to Allah, Who hath preferred us above many of His believing slaves!
And Solomon inherited from David, saying, “O people, we have been taught the language of birds, and we have been given of all things. This is indeed a great blessing.”
27:16And Solomon was David's heir. And he said: O mankind! Lo! we have been taught the language of birds, and have been given (abundance) of all things. This surely is evident favour.
And David and Solomon, when they judged concerning the field where sheep had strayed at night, We witnessed their judgment.
21:78And David and Solomon, when they gave judgment concerning the field, when people's sheep had strayed and browsed therein by night; and We were witnesses to their judgment.
