Pharaoh Punished
Pharaoh proclaimed to his people, “O my people, is not the kingdom of Egypt mine, with rivers flowing beneath me? Do you not see?”
43:51And Pharaoh caused a proclamation to be made among his people saying: O my people! Is not mine the sovereignty of Egypt and these rivers flowing under me? Can ye not then discern?
79:21But he denied and disobeyed,
79:22Then turned he away in haste,
79:23Then gathered he and summoned
79:24And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest."
“Am I not better than this one who is insignificant and barely speaks clearly?”
43:52I am surely better than this fellow, who is despicable and can hardly make (his meaning) plain!
“Why were bracelets of gold not sent down upon him, or angels accompanying him?”
43:53Why, then, have armlets of gold not been set upon him, or angels sent along with him?
Thus, he fooled his people, and they obeyed him; they were a wicked people.
43:54Thus he persuaded his people to make light (of Moses), and they obeyed him. Lo! they were a wanton folk.
And recall when We saved you from Pharaoh’s people, who afflicted you with the worst torment, slaughtering your sons while sparing your women. In this was a great trial from your Lord.
2:49And (remember) when We did deliver you from Pharaoh's folk, who were afflicting you with dreadful torment, slaying your sons and sparing your women: that was a tremendous trial from your Lord.
The chiefs among Pharaoh’s people said, “Will you let Moses and his people spread corruption in the land and abandon you and your gods?” He said, “We will kill their sons and spare their women. We have full control over them.”
2:49And (remember) when We did deliver you from Pharaoh's folk, who were afflicting you with dreadful torment, slaying your sons and sparing your women: that was a tremendous trial from your Lord.
7:127The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: (O King), wilt thou suffer Moses and his people to make mischief in the land, and flout thee and thy gods? He said: We will slay their sons and spare their women, for lo! we are in power over them.
7:141And (remember) when We did deliver you from Pharaoh's folk who were afflicting you with dreadful torment, slaughtering your sons and sparing your women. That was a tremendous trial from your Lord.
14:6And (remind them) how Moses said unto his people: Remember Allah's favour unto you when He delivered you from Pharaoh's folk who were afflicting you with dreadful torment, and were slaying your sons and sparing your women; that was a tremendous trial from your Lord.
40:25And when he brought them the Truth from Our presence, they said: Slay the sons of those who believe with him, and spare their women. But the plot of disbelievers is in naught but error.
Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses, and let him call upon his Lord! I fear he may change your religion or spread corruption in the land."
40:26And Pharaoh said: Suffer me to kill Moses, and let him cry unto his Lord. Lo! I fear that he will alter your religion or that he will cause confusion in the land.
Moses said, "I seek refuge in my Lord and yours from every arrogant one who does not believe in the Day of Reckoning."
40:27Moses said: Lo! I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every scorner who believeth not in a Day of Reckoning.
A believing man from Pharaoh’s people, who concealed his faith, said, "Will you kill a man for saying, ‘My Lord is Allah,’ when he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? If he is lying, his lie will be upon him. But if he is truthful, some of what he warns will befall you.
40:28And a believing man of Pharaoh's family, who hid his faith, said: Would ye kill a man because he saith: My Lord is Allah, and hath brought you clear proofs from your Lord? If he is lying, then his lie is upon him; and if he is truthful, then some of that wherewith he threateneth you will strike you. Lo! Allah guideth not one who is a prodigal, a liar.
"O my people, today you rule the land, but who will help us against Allah’s punishment if it comes?" Pharaoh said, "I show you only what I see fit, and I guide you only to the right path."
40:29O my people! Yours is the kingdom to-day, ye being uppermost in the land. But who would save us from the wrath of Allah should it reach us? Pharaoh said: I do but show you what I think, and I do but guide you to wise policy.
But the believer said, "O my people, I fear for you a fate like that of past nations."
40:30And he who believed said: O my people! Lo! I fear for you a fate like that of the factions (of old);
Moses said to his people, “Seek help from Allah and be patient. The earth belongs to Allah; He grants it to whomever He wills. The final victory is for the righteous.”
7:128And Moses said unto his people: Seek help in Allah and endure. Lo! the earth is Allah's. He giveth it for an inheritance to whom He will. And lo! the sequel is for those who keep their duty (unto Him).
Moses said, “O my people, if you believe in Allah and submit to Him, then place your trust in Him.”
10:84And Moses said: O my people! If ye have believed in Allah then put trust in Him, if ye have indeed surrendered (unto Him)!
They replied, “We place our trust in Allah. Our Lord, do not let us be oppressed by the unjust people.
10:85They said: In Allah we put trust. Our Lord! Oh, make us not a lure for the wrongdoing folk;
Save us by Your mercy from the disbelievers.”
10:86And, of Thy mercy, save us from the folk that disbelieve.
We inspired Moses and his brother: “Settle your people in Egypt and make your homes places of worship. Establish prayer and give good news to the believers.”
10:87And We inspired Moses and his brother, (saying): Appoint houses for your people in Egypt and make your houses oratories, and establish worship. And give good news to the believers.
Moses prayed, “Our Lord, You have given Pharaoh and his chiefs wealth and splendour, leading them to misguide others from Your path. Our Lord, erase their wealth and harden their hearts, so they will not believe until they see the painful punishment.”
10:88And Moses said: Our Lord! Lo! Thou hast given Pharaoh and his chiefs splendour and riches in the life of the world, Our Lord! that they may lead men astray from Thy way. Our Lord! Destroy their riches and harden their hearts so that they believe not till they see the painful doom.
Allah responded, “Your prayer has been answered, so remain steadfast and do not follow the path of the ignorant.”
10:89He said: Your prayer is heard. Do ye twain keep to the straight path, and follow not the road of those who have no knowledge.
They said, “We suffered before you came to us, and we still suffer now.” He said, “Perhaps your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you successors in the land, to see how you act.”
7:129They said: We suffered hurt before thou camest unto us, and since thou hast come unto us. He said: It may be that your Lord is going to destroy your adversary and make you viceroys in the earth, that He may see how ye behave.
We afflicted Pharaoh’s people with drought and famine, so they might take heed.
7:130And we straitened Pharaoh's folk with famine and dearth of fruits, that peradventure they might heed.
But when good came to them, they said, “This is ours.” And when hardship struck, they blamed Moses and his followers. Yet their misfortune was decreed by Allah, though most of them did not realize it.
7:131But whenever good befell them, they said: This is ours; and whenever evil smote them they ascribed it to the evil auspices of Moses and those with him. Surely their evil auspice was only with Allah. But most of them knew not.
They said, “Whatever sign you bring to bewitch us, we will not believe in you.”
7:132And they said: Whatever portent thou bringest wherewith to bewitch us, we shall not put faith in thee.
So We sent upon them floods, locusts, lice, frogs, and blood, clear signs, yet they remained arrogant and were a wicked people.
7:133So We sent against them the flood and the locusts and the vermin and the frogs and the blood - a succession of clear signs. But they were arrogant and became a guilty folk.
20:56And We verily did show him all Our tokens, but he denied them and refused.
Yet We showed them greater signs, and We seized them with punishment, so they might return.
43:48And every token that We showed them was greater than its sister (token), and We grasped them with the torment, that haply they might turn again.
Whenever a plague struck them, they pleaded, “O Moses, pray to your Lord for us, as He has promised you. If you remove this plague, we will surely believe and let the Children of Israel go with you.”
7:134And when the terror fell on them they cried: O Moses! Pray for us unto thy Lord, because He hath a covenant with thee. If thou removest the terror from us we verily will trust thee and will let the Children of Israel go with thee.
43:49And they said: O wizard! Entreat thy Lord for us by the pact that He hath made with thee. Lo! we verily will walk aright.
