Generations Destroyed

Have they not considered how many generations We destroyed before them? We had granted them greater stability on earth, sent down abundant rain, and made rivers flow beneath them, yet We wiped them out for their sins and replaced them with new peoples.

6:6See they not how many a generation We destroyed before them, whom We had established in the earth more firmly than We have established you, and We shed on them abundant showers from the sky, and made the rivers flow beneath them. Yet we destroyed them for their sins, and created after them another generation.

How many generations We destroyed before them, who were mightier in strength? They searched the lands, was there any escape?

50:36And how many a generation We destroyed before them, who were mightier than these in prowess so that they overran the lands! Had they any place of refuge (when the judgment came)?

How many generations have We destroyed after Noah?

17:17How many generations have We destroyed since Noah! And Allah sufficeth as Knower and Beholder of the sins of His slaves.

In that is a reminder for whoever has a heart, or listens attentively with presence of mind.

50:37Lo! therein verily is a reminder for him who hath a heart, or giveth ear with full intelligence.

And by morning, a relentless punishment overtook them

54:38And in truth the punishment decreed befell them early in the morning.

So, taste My punishment and warning!

54:39Now taste My punishment after My warnings!

When generations before me have already passed away?”, while they call to Allah for help: “Woe to you! Believe!

46:17And whoso saith unto his parents: Fie upon you both! Do ye threaten me that I shall be brought forth (again) when generations before me have passed away? And they twain cry unto Allah for help (and say): Woe unto thee! Believe! Lo! the promise of Allah is true. But he saith: This is naught save fables of the men of old:

Those are the ones against whom the word has come into effect, along with communities before them of jinn and humans; they were truly losers.

46:18Such are those on whom the Word concerning nations of the jinn and mankind which have passed away before them hath effect. Lo! they are the losers.

Each will have ranks according to what they did, so He may fully repay them for their deeds, and none will be wronged.

46:19And for all there will be ranks from what they do, that He may pay them for their deeds; and they will not be wronged.

Then, when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, “This is a cloud bringing us rain.” No, it is what you sought to hasten: a wind with painful punishment

46:24Then, when they beheld it as a dense cloud coming toward their valleys, they said: Here is a cloud bringing us rain. Nay, but it is that which ye did seek to hasten, a wind wherein is painful torment,

Destroying everything by the command of its Lord. By morning, nothing could be seen but their ruins. Thus do We repay the guilty people.

46:25Destroying all things by commandment of its Lord. And morning found them so that naught could be seen save their dwellings. Thus do We reward the guilty folk.

But how many generations before them did We destroy, who were greater in wealth and splendour?

19:74How many a generation have We destroyed before them, who were more imposing in respect of gear and outward seeming!

How many generations before them have We destroyed? Do you perceive even a trace of them or hear from them a whisper?

19:98And how many a generation before them have We destroyed! Canst thou (Muhammad) see a single man of them, or hear from them the slightest sound?

How many generations before them did We destroy? They cried out, but escape was beyond reach.

38:3How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was no longer the time for escape!

Have they not reflected that We destroyed many generations before them who walked the earth? Surely in this are signs for those of understanding.

20:128Is it not a guidance for them (to know) how many a generation We destroyed before them, amid whose dwellings they walk? Lo! therein verily are signs for men of thought.

So be patient with what they say, and glorify your Lord with praise before sunrise and before sunset, and during the night, and at the edges of the day, so that you may be pleased.

20:130Therefor (O Muhammad), bear with what they say, and celebrate the praise of thy Lord ere the rising of the sun and ere the going down thereof. And glorify Him some hours of the night and at the two ends of the day, that thou mayst find acceptance.
