Love of Wealth full verses back to top

O believers! Many rabbis and monks consume people’s wealth unjustly and turn others away from Allah’s path. Those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in Allah’s cause, give them news of a painful punishment.

Woe to every slanderer and mocker

Who hoards wealth and counts it

And love wealth with an obsessive love.

Stingy full verses back to top

Those who hoard wealth and withhold it from others should know that Allah does not love arrogance.

Some among them pledged to Allah, saying, “If He grants us wealth, we will surely give charity and be righteous.”

But when He gave them wealth, they became stingy and turned away in defiance.

So, He placed hypocrisy in their hearts until the Day they meet Him, because they broke their promise and lied.

Not Spending full verses back to top

And those who spend their wealth to be seen by people, without believing in Allah or the Last Day

Those who hoard wealth and refuse to spend in Allah’s cause should not think it is good for them. Rather, it will be a burden around their necks on the Day of Judgment.

Their donations are only rejected because they disbelieve in Allah and His Messenger, come to prayer lazily, and give reluctantly.

Do not let their wealth or children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through these in this life, and their souls will depart while they are disbelievers.

The life of this world is but play and distraction. But if you believe and are mindful, He will give you your rewards and not ask for all your wealth.

If He were to ask you for it and press you, you would withhold, and He would expose your greed.

Here you are, invited to spend in Allah’s cause, but some of you withhold. And whoever withholds does so only against himself. Allah is free of need, while you are the needy.

Exchanging Covenant for Money full verses back to top

Do not trade Allah’s covenant for a fleeting gain.

Those who trade Allah’s covenant and their oaths for a fleeting gain will have no share in the Hereafter. Allah will neither speak to them nor look at them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He purify them.

Do not trade My revelations for a small price.

Do not trade My revelations for a fleeting gain.

They traded away Allah’s revelations for a cheap price, turning others away from His path. How evil is what they did!

Children full verses back to top

O you who believe, let neither your wealth nor your children distract you from the remembrance of Allah. Whoever does so, it is they who are the losers.

Your wealth and your children are only a test.

Wealth and children are adornments of this life, but lasting good deeds are better in reward and hope.

Do not entrust the immature with your wealth, which Allah has made a means of sustenance. Provide for them, clothe them, and speak to them with kindness.

Not Saving full verses back to top

As for those who disbelieve, their wealth and children will not avail them against Allah.

The example of what they spend in this life is like a freezing wind that strikes the harvest of a people who have wronged themselves; it destroys everything. Allah does not wrong them, but they wrong themselves.

Stealing full verses back to top

As for thieves, male or female, cut off their hands as a deterrent from Allah.

But whoever repents after wrongdoing and mends their ways, Allah will turn to them in forgiveness.

Jews full verses back to top

Allah has heard the words of those who said, ‘Allah is poor while we are rich.’ We will record their words and their unjust killing of the prophets.

Gambling full verses back to top

They ask you about intoxicants and gambling. Say, 'There is great sin in both, though they have some benefit for people. But their sin is greater than their benefit.' They also ask what they should spend. Say, 'Give what is beyond your needs.'
