Muhammad and Miraculous Signs

And they say, “What kind of messenger is this, who eats food and walks in the marketplaces? If only an angel had been sent down with him to warn alongside him

Glory be to the One who carried His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque, whose surroundings We have blessed, so that We might show him some of Our signs.

The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split.

Allah has truly fulfilled the vision shown to His Messenger in truth: “You will surely enter the Sacred Mosque, if Allah wills, in safety, your heads shaved or hair shortened, without fear.” He knew what you did not, and He granted you a victory near at hand.

"How many signs exist in the heavens and the earth that they pass by, heedless?"

Say, “Observe what is in the heavens and the earth.” But signs and warnings do not benefit those who refuse to believe.

We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves, until it becomes clear that this is the truth.

Indeed, they doubt the meeting with their Lord. Yet He encompasses all things.

Yet they say, “These are confused dreams! No, he has fabricated them! No, he is a poet! Let him bring us a sign like those sent before.”

Had We destroyed them before this, they would have said, “Our Lord, if only You had sent us a messenger, we would have followed Your signs before being humiliated and disgraced.”

They say, “Why were no miracles sent down to him from his Lord?” Say, “Miracles are only with Allah, and I am only a clear warner.”

They demand punishment before mercy, though many before them were destroyed. Yet your Lord is forgiving toward people despite their wrongdoing, but He is also severe in retribution.

The disbelievers ask, “Why has no sign been sent down to him?” But you are only a warner, and every nation has its guide.

They say, “Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?” Have they not received clear proof in earlier scriptures?

They say, “We will not believe unless you make a spring gush forth from the earth for us,”

“Or you have a garden of date palms and grapes, with rivers flowing through it,”

“Or you make the sky fall upon us in pieces, as you claim, or bring Allah and the angels before us,”

“Or you have a house of gold, or ascend into the sky, but we will not believe in your ascension unless you bring down a book for us to read.” Say, “Glory be to my Lord! Am I anything but a human messenger?”

They say, “Why has no sign been sent down to him from his Lord?” Say, “Allah is fully capable of sending signs, but most of them do not understand.”

They swear by Allah with their strongest oaths that if a sign were sent to them, they would surely believe. Say: Signs are with Allah alone, but even if they came, they would not believe.

Yet whenever a sign from their Lord reaches them, they turn away in denial.

The disbelievers say, “Why has no sign been sent down to him?” Say, “Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides those who turn to Him.”

Or do they say: He has fabricated lies about Allah? If Allah so willed, He could seal your heart. But Allah erases falsehood and establishes truth by His words.

Or do they say, “He made it up”? Say, “If I have fabricated it, then my sin is upon me, but I am free of your wrongdoing.”

You gain benefits from them and use them to fulfil your needs, and you are carried upon them and upon ships.

He shows you His signs, so which of Allah’s signs will you deny?

Let those who dispute Our signs know that they have no escape.

Have you not seen those who dispute Allah’s signs, how they turn away?

When a sign comes to them, they say, “We will not believe until we receive what Allah’s messengers have received.” Allah knows best where to place His message. The guilty will suffer humiliation before Allah and severe punishment for their scheming.

We brought you the truth, but most of you detested it.

Or have they devised a plan? We too are planning.

None dispute Allah’s signs except those who reject the truth. Do not be deceived by their movements in the land.

But those who reject Our signs, we will gradually lead them to ruin in ways they do not perceive.

I give them time, but My plan is firm.

When you do not bring them a sign, they say, “Why haven’t you made one up?” Say, “I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord.

But those who disbelieved and denied Our signs, they will suffer a humiliating punishment.

And on the Day, We gather from every nation a group of those who denied Our signs, they will be driven in ranks.

Those who reject faith and deny Allah’s signs will be cast into the Fire, where they will remain, an awful fate.

If We willed, We could send down a sign from the heavens that would make their necks bow in humility.

But whenever a fresh reminder comes to them from the Most Merciful, they turn away.

They have denied the truth, but soon they will face the consequences of their mockery.

Have they not seen the earth, how many beautiful pairs We have produced within it?

Surely in this is a sign, but most of them do not believe.

They say, “Why has no sign been sent down to him from his Lord?” Say, “The unseen belongs to Allah alone, so wait, for I too am waiting.”

Do they expect anything but the fate of those before them? Say, “Then wait, I too am waiting.”

Are they waiting for the angels to come, or for your Lord Himself, or for some of His signs? On the Day some of His signs appear, faith will not benefit those who did not believe before or who did not earn good through their faith. Say, “Wait, we too are waiting.”

Say, “Everyone is waiting, so wait. You will soon know who follows the straight path and who is rightly guided.”

“Wait, for we too are waiting.”

Say, “Wait then, I too am waiting with you.”

They swear by Allah with their strongest oaths that He will not resurrect the dead. But yes, this is a true promise upon Him, though most people do not know.

To clarify what they differed about, and so the disbelievers may realize they were wrong.

These are parables We set forth for people, but only the knowledgeable understand them.
