Muhammad's Function - Responses

Say, “I am only a human messenger. Whoever hopes to meet his Lord should do righteous deeds and not associate anyone in worship with Him.”

Say, “I am but a human like you, inspired that your Allah is One. So, stand firm before Him and seek His forgiveness.”

Say, “I have no power to benefit or harm myself, except as Allah wills. If I had knowledge of the unseen, I would have secured abundant good and avoided harm. I am only a warner and a bearer of glad tidings for those who believe.”

Say, “I have no power to harm or benefit myself except as Allah wills. Every nation has its appointed time. When their time comes, they cannot delay it nor hasten it.”

The places of worship belong to Allah, so do not call upon anyone besides Him.

When Allah’s servant stood up to call upon Him, they nearly swarmed him in crowds.

Say: “I have no power to harm or benefit you.”

Say: “No one can protect me from Allah, and I will find no refuge besides Him.

Say: “I do not know whether what you are promised is near or far.

He alone knows the unseen, and He reveals none of it to anyone.

Except to a messenger, He chooses.

It is by Allah’s mercy that you were gentle with them. Had you been harsh and hard-hearted, they would have abandoned you. So, pardon them, seek forgiveness for them, and consult them in matters. Once you decide, put your trust in Allah.

You are not responsible for guiding people

But if you turn away, know that the Messenger’s duty is only to deliver the message clearly.

We know that your heart is distressed by what they say.

You will not be held accountable for those who choose the path of the Fire.

O believers! You are responsible for your own souls.

The disbelievers almost trip you up with their eyes when they hear the message, and they say, “He is surely mad!”

Yet it is nothing but a reminder to all the worlds.

Or do they say, “He is possessed”? Rather, he came to them with the truth, but most of them hate the truth.

If the truth followed their desires, the heavens and the earth and all within them would fall into ruin.

But how can they take heed now, when a clear messenger had already come to them?

Then they turned away from him and said, “Taught by others, possessed!”

Likewise, no messenger came to those before them but they said, “A sorcerer or a madman.”

They say, “O you to whom the Reminder has been sent, you are surely insane.”

“Has he fabricated a lie about Allah, or is he possessed?” No!

They marvel that a warner has come from among them, saying, “This is a deceiving magician.”

Have they not reflected? Their companion is not possessed.

So, remind, for by the grace of your Lord, you are neither a soothsayer nor mad.

Did they pass down this saying to one another? No, they are a people transgressing all bounds.

So, turn away from them, you are not to be blamed.

Your companion has not strayed, nor has he erred.

He does not speak from whim.

It is nothing but a revelation sent down.

Taught to him by one of immense power

Firm in might, he rose to his true form

While he was on the highest horizon.

Then he drew near and came closer still

Until he was two bow-lengths away, or even nearer.

Then He revealed to His servant what He revealed.

The heart did not deny what it saw.

Will you then dispute with him over what he saw?

Indeed, he saw him on another descent

The sight did not waver, nor did it overreach.

So, remain steadfast as you have been commanded, along with those who turn to Allah with you. Do not transgress.

We have not made you their guardian, nor are you responsible for them.

But We have not made you their guardian, nor are you responsible for them.

Say, “O humanity, the truth has come to you from your Lord. Whoever chooses guidance does so for their own benefit, and whoever goes astray does so at their own loss. I am not a guardian over you.”

Yet your people reject it, though it is the truth. Say: I am not your keeper.

I am not your keeper.

I am not a guardian over you.

Nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. I only follow what is revealed to me.

And he does not withhold knowledge of the unseen.

Allah has heard the plea of the woman who argued with you about her husband and appealed to Him. He hears your conversation

Do not be an advocate for the deceitful.

Do not argue on behalf of those who betray themselves.

Here you are, defending them in this life, but who will defend them against Allah on the Day of Judgment? Who will stand as their advocate?

Say, “I do not claim to possess Allah’s treasures, nor do I know the unseen, nor do I say I am an angel. I only follow what is revealed to me.” Say, “Can the blind and the seeing be equal? Will you not reflect?”

Yet they say, “These are confused dreams! No, he has fabricated them! No, he is a poet!

And said, “Shall we abandon our gods for a mad poet?”

Or do they say, “He is a poet, we await some misfortune to befall him”?

We did not teach him poetry, nor does it suit him.

It is not the speech of a poet, how little you believe.

So, remind, for by the grace of your Lord, you are neither a soothsayer

Nor is it the word of a soothsayer, how little you reflect.

Muhammad is not the father of any of your men

You have no say in the matter, whether He forgives them or punishes them, for they are truly wrongdoers.

It is a revelation from the Lord of all worlds.

Had he falsely attributed any words to Us

We would have seized him by the right hand

Then severed his aorta

And none of you could have shielded him.

Say, "Never to be among those who associate others with Him.”

Say, "I ask no reward from you, nor do I claim to be something I am not."

Or are you asking them for payment? The reward of your Lord is better.

You are surely calling them to a straight path.

Say, “I ask no reward for this; it is only a reminder for all people.”

Say: I ask no reward from you for this, except love among kin.

Or do you ask them for a payment, so they are burdened by debt?

If you turn away, I have not asked you for any reward; my reward is only from Allah. I have been commanded to submit to Him.”

"And you ask no reward from them for this message"

Say: “I ask no payment from you, only that whoever wills may take a path to his Lord.”

Your Lord has not abandoned you, nor has He despised you.
