Sealed Heart
Some among them listen to you, but We have placed veils over their hearts and deafness in their ears, so they cannot comprehend. Even if they saw every sign, they would still not believe.
6:25Of them are some who listen unto thee, but We have placed upon their hearts veils, lest they should understand, and in their ears a deafness. If they saw every token they would not believe therein; to the point that, when they come unto thee to argue with thee, the disbelievers say: This is naught else than fables of the men of old.
Who is more unjust than one who is reminded of his Lord’s signs but turns away, forgetting what his hands have done? We have placed veils over their hearts so they cannot understand, and deafness in their ears. Even if you call them to guidance, they will never be guided.
18:57And who doth greater wrong than he who hath been reminded of the revelations of his Lord, yet turneth away from them and forgetteth what his hands send forward (to the Judgment)? Lo! on their hearts We have placed coverings so that they understand not, and in their ears a deafness. And though thou call them to the guidance, in that case they can never be led aright.
"Those who dispute Allah’s signs without proof, this is deeply hateful to Allah and the believers. Thus, Allah seals the hearts of every arrogant tyrant."
40:35Those who wrangle concerning the revelations of Allah without any warrant that hath come unto them, it is greatly hateful in the sight of Allah and in the sight of those who believe. Thus doth Allah print on every arrogant, disdainful heart.
Those who dispute Allah’s signs without proof have arrogance in their hearts. So seek shelter in Allah, for He alone hears all, sees all.
40:56Lo! those who wrangle concerning the revelations of Allah without a warrant having come unto them, there is naught else in their breasts save pride which they will never attain. So take thou refuge in Allah. Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Seer.
Allah has sealed their hearts and ears, and a veil covers their sight;
2:7Allah hath sealed their hearing and their hearts, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be an awful doom.
We cover their hearts so they cannot understand it, and We make their ears deaf. When you mention your Lord alone in the Quran, they turn away in disgust.
17:46And We place upon their hearts veils lest they should understand it, and in their ears a deafness; and when thou makest mention of thy Lord alone in the Qur'an, they turn their backs in aversion.
You cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear your call when they turn away.
27:80Lo! thou canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call when they have turned to flee;
Your Allah is One. But those who deny the Hereafter, their hearts reject, and they are arrogant.
16:22Your Allah is One Allah. But as for those who believe not in the Hereafter their hearts refuse to know, for they are proud.
Wherever you may be, death will reach you, even if you are in fortified towers. When good comes to them, they say, ‘This is from Allah,’ but when harm befalls them, they say, ‘This is from you.’ Say, ‘All things come from Allah.’ What is wrong with these people that they barely understand anything?
4:78Wheresoever ye may be, death will overtake you, even though ye were in lofty towers. Yet if a happy thing befalleth them they say: This is from Allah; and if an evil thing befalleth them they say: This is of thy doing (O Muhammad). Say (unto them): All is from Allah. What is amiss with these people that they come not nigh to understand a happening?
Have they not travelled the land and had hearts to reason with, or ears to hear with? It is not the eyes that go blind, but the hearts within the chests.
22:46Have they not travelled in the land, and have they hearts wherewith to feel and ears wherewith to hear? For indeed it is not the eyes that grow blind, but it is the hearts, which are within the bosoms, that grow blind.
Their hearts harbour a disease, and Allah increases their affliction.
2:10In their hearts is a disease, and Allah increaseth their disease. A painful doom is theirs because they lie.
Or do those with sickness in their hearts think Allah will not expose their malice?
47:29Or do those in whose hearts is a disease deem that Allah will not bring to light their (secret) hates?
But as for those with sickness in their hearts, it only adds to their defilement, and they die as disbelievers.
9:125But as for those in whose hearts is disease, it only addeth wickedness to their wickedness, and they die while they are disbelievers.
Do they not see that they are tested once or twice every year? Yet they neither repent nor take heed.
9:126See they not that they are tested once or twice in every year? Still they turn not in repentance, neither pay they heed.
Had We willed, We could have shown them to you, and you would know them by their marks. But you will surely know them by their tone of speech. Allah knows your deeds.
47:30And if We would, We could show them unto thee (Muhammad) so that thou shouldst know them surely by their marks. And thou shalt know them by the burden of their talk. And Allah knoweth your deeds.
Most of the earlier generations were like that.
37:71And verily most of the men of old went astray before them,
Thus, We let disbelief take root in the hearts of the guilty.
15:12Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty:
Thus, Allah seals the hearts of those who do not know.
30:59Thus doth Allah seal the hearts of those who know not.
They do not believe in it, though the fate of earlier nations has already passed.
15:13They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before.
Even if We opened for them a gateway to the heavens, allowing them to ascend continuously
15:14And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it,
They would still say, “Our eyes are hallucinating; we are bewitched.”
15:15They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched.
Do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance, who follows his desires, and whose affairs are in ruin.
18:28Restrain thyself along with those who cry unto their Lord at morn and evening, seeking His Countenance; and let not thine eyes overlook them, desiring the pomp of the life of the world; and obey not him whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance, who followeth his own lust and whose case hath been abandoned.
Say, “Whoever is in error, let the Most Merciful extend his time until, when they see what they were promised, either punishment or the Hour, they will know who is in the worse position and weaker in support.”
19:75Say: As for him who is in error, the Beneficent will verily prolong his span of life until, when they behold that which they were promised, whether it be punishment (in the world), or the Hour (of doom), they will know who is worse in position and who is weaker as an army.
Have you seen the one who rejects Our signs and says, “I will surely be given wealth and children”?
19:77Hast thou seen him who disbelieveth in Our revelations and saith: Assuredly I shall be given wealth and children?
Let not the disbelievers think that their extended time is good for them; it only increases their burden.
3:178And let not those who disbelieve imagine that the rein We give them bodeth good unto their souls. We only give them rein that they may grow in sinfulness. And theirs will be a shameful doom.
And when We told you, “Your Lord encompasses all people,” We made the vision We showed you a trial for them, as well as the cursed tree in the Quran. We warn them, but it only increases their defiance.
17:60And (it was a warning) when we told thee: Lo! thy Lord encompasseth mankind, and We appointed the sight which We showed thee as an ordeal for mankind, and (likewise) the Accursed Tree in the Qur'an. We warn them, but it increaseth them in naught save gross impiety.
They say, “Our hearts are veiled from what you call us to, our ears are deaf, and between us and you is a barrier, so do as you will, and we shall do as we will.”
41:5And they say: Our hearts are protected from that unto which thou (O Muhammad) callest us, and in our ears there is a deafness, and between us and thee there is a veil. Act, then. Lo! we also shall be acting.
