Pretending to Believe Muhammad

They say, “We believe in Allah and the Messenger, and we obey.” But then a group among them turns away; these are not true believers.

24:47And they say: We believe in Allah and the messenger, and we obey; then after that a faction of them turn away. Such are not believers.

When they are called to Allah and His Messenger to judge between them, some turn away.

24:48And when they appeal unto Allah and His messenger to judge between them, lo! a faction of them are averse;

But if the truth is in their favour, they come willingly.

24:49But if right had been with them they would have come unto him willingly.

Is there a sickness in their hearts? Or do they doubt? Or do they fear that Allah and His Messenger will be unjust to them? No, it is they who are the wrongdoers.

24:50Is there in their hearts a disease, or have they doubts, or fear they lest Allah and His messenger should wrong them in judgment? Nay, but such are evil-doers.

When Allah alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink in aversion. But when others are mentioned besides Him, they rejoice.

39:45And when Allah alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter are repelled, and when those (whom they worship) beside Him are mentioned, behold! they are glad.

When the hypocrites come to you, they say, “We bear witness that you are truly Allah’s Messenger.” Allah knows you are His Messenger, but Allah also bears witness that the hypocrites are liars.

63:1When the hypocrites come unto thee (O Muhammad), they say: We bear witness that thou art indeed Allah's messenger. And Allah knoweth that thou art indeed His messenger, and Allah beareth witness that the hypocrites indeed are speaking falsely.

They use their oaths as a shield and turn others away from Allah’s path. What a wretched thing they do.

63:2They make their faith a pretext so that they may turn (men) from the way of Allah. Verily evil is that which they are wont to do,

That is because they believed, then disbelieved, so their hearts were sealed, and they cannot understand.

63:3That is because they believed, then disbelieved, therefore their hearts are sealed so that they understand not.

When you see them, their appearance impresses you; and when they speak, you listen attentively. But they are like hollow logs propped up, thinking every shout is against them. They are the enemy, so beware of them. May Allah curse them; how deluded they are.

63:4And when thou seest them their figures please thee; and if they speak thou givest ear unto their speech. (They are) as though they were blocks of wood in striped cloaks. They deem every shout to be against them. They are the enemy, so beware of them. Allah confound them! How they are perverted!

When it is said to them, “Come, the Messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness for you,” they turn their heads away, and you see them arrogantly turning aside.

63:5And when it is said unto them: Come! The messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness for you! they avert their faces and thou seest them turning away, disdainful.

It is the same whether you ask forgiveness for them or not; Allah will never forgive them. Truly, Allah does not guide the rebellious.

63:6Whether thou ask forgiveness for them or ask not forgiveness for them is all one for them; Allah will not forgive them. Lo! Allah guideth not the evil-living folk.

They are the ones who say, “Do not spend on those with the Messenger of Allah until they abandon him.” But to Allah belong the treasures of the heavens and the earth, yet the hypocrites do not understand.

63:7They it is who say: Spend not on behalf of those (who dwell) with Allah's messenger that they may disperse (and go away from you); when Allah's are the treasures of the heavens and the earth; but the hypocrites comprehend not.

They say, “If we return to Medina, the more honoured will surely expel the more humble.” But honour belongs to Allah, His Messenger, and the believers, yet the hypocrites do not know.

63:8They say: Surely, if we return to Al-Madinah the mightier will soon drive out the weaker; when might belongeth to Allah and to His messenger and to the believers; but the hypocrites know not.

Do not let their words distress you. All power belongs to Allah.

10:65And let not their speech grieve thee (O Muhammad). Lo! power belongeth wholly to Allah. He is the Hearer, the Knower.
